OUR HISTORY

 

In September of 2006, owners Chris Akins and Avery Rhodes had a new baby girl, a Bernese Mountain dog, and a newly built 35,000 square foot business to fill with furniture. 

 

With the help of our family and new employees, we unpackaged, rolled, pushed, and shoved furniture piece by piece onto our showroom floor.   At the time of our grand opening on October 5, 2006, Avery and Chris even lived in an apartment at Alabama Furniture Market! 

 

Since then, a lot has changed, and our store has flourished and grown.  Family and furniture are intimately connected for us.  For example, our roots are in Dogtown where our flagship store, Akins Furniture, stands as Alabama’s largest furniture showroom.  Furthermore, on any given day, you may see our children (that baby girl is now 5 and we’ve added two boys) or that Bernese Mountain Dog on the furniture store floor.  Finally, our employees are like family to us; we work closely together and, therefore, we are close.  As you can see, our family and our store are our heart and soul, and we hope you feel it when you visit us.  We greet you with smiling salespeople, we work hard to offer you great customer service, and, of course, we share with you a vast array of beautiful furniture, bedding, and accessories.  At Alabama Furniture Market, we can’t wait to meet you!

*FABRICS AND FINISHES

 

Let’s say you find a sofa on our floor that you absolutely love because the style is right and it is very comfortable, but its colors could never match your living room.  Linger at our fabric walls and discover the pleasing array of colors and textures that your chosen furniture may be available in!  Also, many manufacturers allow you to change the finish of the wood on your upholstered furniture, and some even allow you to customize further; you may determine the size of your furniture as well as the arm style and whether you would like exposed wood or a skirt.  The world is your oyster!
